These Are a Few of My Favorite Things: South Pasadena

That tiny LA neighborhood best known locally as “SouthPas”, is more than just Pasadena adjacent. This racially diverse little nook of nice is a great slice of Americana as it could only be imagined in Southern California. Warning: apartments for rent in South Pasadena are likely to be historic and charming. We asked The Rental Girl’s local expert to name a few of her favorite things about this city with the small town atmosphere, just off the 110 freeway:

  1. The Farmers’ Market. Every Thursday this awesome little farmers’ market is put up by the Metro Gold Line at South Pasadena Station. I get my produce here and treat myself to a pupusa from a local vendor.  The sense of community brings me back every week.
  2. La Monarca Bakery. Whenever I need a pick-me-up, this is my favorite place for cafe de olla.  Its intense flavor and smell will bring anyone back for another cup.
  3. Grass Roots. It’s the only place in town to get a wholesome organic meal.  Their blueberry pancakes are a must! They also have a small market area to find what you can’t  find at a traditional market.
  4.  The Arroyo. This long stretch of nature is used by the community for walking, hiking and riding horses.
  5.  Garfield Park. This is the best park in town! During the summer months the city sponsors summer concerts.  Tons of people come with their blankets and picnic baskets to enjoy the free music.
  6.  The People. I used to live in South Pasadena and enjoy running into people I know and catching up on old times.

When moving from out of town, it can be very difficult trying to decide which neighborhood in Los Angeles to move to. “These Are a Few of My Favorite Things” is one series of blog posts brought to you by leasing agents at The Rental Girl to help educate you on the variety of colorful neighborhoods Los Angeles has to offer.
