BOUTIQUE WINTER IGLOO FOR 2 ON AIRBNB

BOUTIQUE WINTER IGLOO FOR 2 ON AIRBNB

We did a segment on Air Talk a couple months ago on Crazy, Bizarre Rental Ads with Larry Mantle. We discussed broom closets, tents, backyard RV’s and the like…but just when we thought we’d seen it all, we learned of an IGLOO for rent on Airbnb! During the New York Blizzard Jonas last week, dumping a historic 26 inches of snow, a man in Brooklyn built a “Boutique Winter Igloo for 2” and rented it on Airbnb last Sunday.

The listing was offered for a mere $200 a night, and was described as follows:

“”Dripping with ingenuity and alt-lifestyle aura lays the Snopocalypse of 2016’s most desirable getaway. Hand-crafted, and built using only natural elements – we’re offering the experience of a life time in this chic dome-style bungalow for you and bae.”

To make it a little more cozy, they added a couple pillows and blankets so you could get the deluxe experience of feeling indoors and outdoors at the same time.

Though questionable how secure or dry you would remain, it included lights so you could snuggle up and read your favorite book, or stare into the beautiful eyes of your bae.

The fresh paint of powder and the adorable pine tree at the Igloo’s entrance really gave it that extra touch to make the experience worth every penny.

As expected, news of the Igloo blew up on Facebook and Reddit Sunday afternoon, and by 7pm that night Airbnb had gotten wind of the listing and removed it from their site.

Turns out the creator was Patrick M. Horton, an advertising art director in New York, who decided together with his roommates to build the igloo in their backyard. He shared his feelings after the removal on Twitter:

While the rental did not meet their standards, Airbnb credited Patrick for a noteworthy effort:

Though it would have been awesome to see if anyone bit for the overnight Igloo experience, we applaud Patrick & Co for pushing rental boundaries to a whole new level.
