But being pet-friendly hasn’t typically made the list, especially when it comes to letting four-legged friends roam area beaches.
New data out from HotPads shows that there are some zip codes in Los Angeles where landlords welcome tenants and their furry friends with open arms.
Here are the top 5 zip codes in Los Angeles with the highest number of pet friendly rental listings.
Top 5 Pet Friendly LA Zip Codes By Number of Rental Listings
1. 90401 – Median Rent $3,485
The highest number of pet friendly rentals in Los Angeles can be found in this zip code that includes parts of Santa Monica. HotPads found that nearly 88 percent of rentals in apartment buildings were listed as pet friendly.
2. 90036 – Median Rent $2,647
The second highest number of pet friendly listings is the Miracle Mile neighborhood where 86 percent of apartment listings are pet friendly.
3. 91601 – Median Rent $2,287
Third on the list, with 85 percent of pet friendly apartment rentals is the NoHo Arts District.
4. 90017 – Median Rent $2,314
Take your four-legged companion closer to downtown and you’ll find 75 percent of the apartments ready to rent to both you and Fido.
5. 90012 – Median Rent $2,421
The Chinatown neighborhood also throws out the welcome mat for pets, with 70 percent of the rentals being pet friendly.
Wondering which area is the hardest to find pet friendly rentals? It’s 90067, which includes Century City. It’s the least pet friendly zip code in LA, with only 8.3 percent of the rentals allowing pets.

HotPads Methodology
We pulled rentals listings from the HotPads rental network in apartment buildings from August 2013 to October 2014. The data was broken down by metro area with 25 percent of the listings from the oldest buildings dropped from the data to account for wear and tear and their likelihood of being listed as more pet-friendly. Only listings with 2 bedrooms or less were used. We sorted the listings by different age groups and then compared pet-friendly vs. not pet-friendly apartment listings.
