Los Angeles neighborhood news sites and blogs are great resources for people looking to move to an unfamiliar area of Los Angeles, or folks moving here from another city and trying to choose the area to settle, or those simply seeking more in-depth community information about our fair city.
Here are some sites that will give you the scoop you’re looking for:
blogging.la – Part of the Metblogs project, a network of urban blogs which began in Los Angeles in 2003 and now covers over 56 cities. All content is original, not aggregated.
Curbed L.A. – Neighborhood news but with a focus on real estate in particular throughout the various ‘hoods of L.A.
Eastsider L.A. – One of the original mainstays of neighborhood blogs, started by reporter Jesus Sanchez. Covering the Eastside of Los Angeles, The Eastsider L.A. reports on such areas as Highland Park, Atwater Village, Echo Park, Boyle Heights, and many more.
Eater L.A. – Part of the Curbed blog network, this blog has a focus on food and restaurant news happening in various parts of town.
I Am San Fernando – A local writer named April Aguirre keeps this site about the San Fernando Valley going, with community news and information. Just got a redesign.
LAist – This site offers info on everything going on in Los Angeles including news, events, and info about restaurants and bars, etc. A part of the Gothamist network, which Forbes calls a collection of “sophisticated, deliciously urbane city blog[s]”.
L.A. Is My Beat – Ellen Bloom’s unassuming but prolific blog has been around since 2005, with fun posts about her restaurant outings, cool local events and other L.A.-centric topics.
L.A. Observed – “LA Observed is a website devoted to independent reporting, informed commentary and selective linkage on Los Angeles news, media, politics, business, books and other topics.” Since 2003, Kevin Roderick has run the site which has been called a blog, news site, online journal, and web magazine.
L.A. Streetsblog – A local advocacy website, L.A. Streetsblog is published & edited respectively by two non-profits: OpenPlans and the Southern California Streets Initiative. Since 2006, “[their] reporters have broken important stories about transit funding, pedestrian safety, and bicycle policy…” in Los Angeles.
L.A. Weekly’s The Informer – Daily blog from the L.A. Weekly with news bites about various parts of L.A.
Los Angeles Magazine Blogs – This print and online mag has several blogs with different focuses including Digest, “L.A.’s tastiest restaurant gossip, culinary events, and food finds;” The Clutch, “Your go-to grab for style and beauty;” Culture Files, “See. Hear. Do: L.A.’s cultural playlist;” and CityThink, “The urban nerd’s guide to L.A.”
Los Feliz Ledger – A local news source for the Los Feliz area.
Manhattan Beach Confidential – Written for many years anonymously, this real estate blog is run by a real estate agent local to Manhattan Beach, Dave Fratello.
Melrose Village Blog – Written and operated by long-term residents of Melrose Village (the community that runs along Melrose Avenue in between Fairfax Avenue and Highland Avenue), this blog features news and commentary about this small but populous and vibrant community.
Rundown – Stay updated on the newest happenings in L.A. in the food, nightlife, style, tech, leisure, travel and events categories.
Tasting Table – This is a daily email publication that once signed up for, will keep you abreast of all the latest food-related happenings in the L.A. area.
